A truly unique style! Discover the latest works of Lausanne-based artist Atid Ajda at Vincent, chocolatier in Lutry, until April 30, 2023. A large-scale exhibition, a magical atmosphere, expressive and colourful paintings… enough to delight any art lover.

A look back at her stunning vernissage on April 13, 2023, which drew great enthusiasm from the local crowd. That evening, wines from Domaine des Chantailles were featured – and rightfully so, as they pair beautifully with local cuisine as well as the specialties of Kosovo, Atid Ajda’s country of origin.
But what is this distinctive style?
Known as Neo-Impressionism, this artistic movement emerged in France at the end of the 19th century. It is also referred to as Pointillism, in reference to the painting technique used by the movement’s artists.
Neo-Impressionists sought to explore the effects of colour by placing small dots of pure, unmixed colour side by side, rather than blending them on the palette. This technique, known as Divisionism, was developed by Georges Seurat, one of the movement’s most famous artists.

Atid Ajda has truly found her own style within it. Quite naturally, she gives her canvases depth and complexity by painting in circles.

Neo-Impressionists were also influenced by scientific colour theories, particularly those developed by chemist Michel Eugène Chevreul. They used complementary colours to create striking contrasts and ensure maximum luminosity in their paintings. A thoughtful art form and an avant-garde European artistic movement of its time.

A vector of emotion: these works are best appreciated from a distance. Unlike traditional painting, here it is the viewer – not the painter – who blends the colours.

Other painters, such as Camille Pissarro, Van Gogh, Cross, Angrand, Maximilien Luce and many more, embraced this approach.
